Speaking a Mystery: God’s Design for Human Sexuality
January 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Pastor Arleigh Champ-Gibson of White River Presbyterian Church in Auburn, Washington will be offering a class called “Speaking A Mystery: God’s Design for Human Sexuality.” An insightful video presentation from Presbyterians for Renewal with discussion to follow. Childcare provided.
- Date: Begins Sunday, February 1st, 2009
- Where: The Small Chapel at White River Presbyterian Church (526 – 12th St SE, Auburn, Washington)
- Time: 8:45am – 9:30am Sundays
What is God’s design for human sexuality? And what does it mean for you personally, for the church, and for American culture? What does it mean for our purpose and search for fulfillment in life? Millions are asking these questions everyday. Where do we look for answers?
In Speaking A Mystery: God’s Design for Human Sexuality, we pursue answers to these questions, through interviews with scholars, through art, and through personal stories of trial and triumph. Presbyterians For Renewal believe that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, that God has created us with a magnificent design — with a purpose and with the opportunity for fulfillment.
As the PC(USA) struggles through its debate over sexual ethics, we need resources that will display the biblical witness and bring honest clarity in the midst of confusion. It is our hope that Speaking A Mystery will fill a significant gap, providing a helpful resource for the governing bodies, congregations, Sunday school classes and individuals of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

ACAP is open for business again!
January 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Great news! ACAP Child and Family Services has started up again this week!
Although they’re not up to full capacity quite yet, all the various requirements and regulations have been met, the two hour firewall is complete, they’ve re-hired staff and teachers, and there are now children playing on the playground.
Hooray! It’s been a long time coming … but definitely worthwhile.

- “Homeschooling and parenting are intertwined in such a way that they can hardly be seen as separate concepts,” says Levison. “As one overlaps with the other, we find that all parents are home educators to some degree.”

2008 Vacation Bible School Report
September 1, 2008 · Leave a Comment
VBS Stats:
Children and Youth: 40+
Adult Volunteers: 20+
Food Drive Totals: 146 items
Parenting Class: 8-12 attendees
This summer, we did something a little different with our Vacation Bible School program. We offered VBS in the evening!
Not only did we offer The Kids’ Honor Club curriculum for the younger folk, we also provided a complimentary parenting class for adults who wanted to stick around.
The kids and their parents met together for some fun games, songs and friendly competition, followed by separate age-appropriate teaching, crafts and games. Then we all gathered together again for closing activities.
Parents and kids these days tend to have few activities they can do together as a family, so we hoped by offering a shared event, we provided families in our community with some important bonding time—along with teaching, Bible stories, and lots of fun!
The church also provided a free dinner each night during VBS week. It was delicious!
